Obituary for Rose Lorig

Rose Lorig
Rose Kahn Lorig, a 77-year resident of Colorado Springs, died on August 2, 2017.

Born in 1915 in St. Paul, Minnesota, Rose, the daughter of Morris and Gretchen Kahn, grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. She received a BA degree from the University of Chicago.

Rose married Marx Lorig in 1940; their life of adventure started with a honeymoon trip by car to Mexico City. She served in many volunteer capacities, including the Volunteer Board of St. Francis Hospital, the Child Guidance Center, The Taylor Museum, the Pioneer Museum and as president of the regional board of The National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods. She and her husband, Marx, were founding members of the first Reform Jewish congregation in Colorado Springs, Temple Beth El.

After Marx’s death in 1990, she shared eleven years of her life with Hershel Wolk, whom she had known in Des Moines fifty years earlier.

Rose loved her family, friends, a good party, travel, reading and serving the community. She was an excellent cook and bridge player and was always the first to call or visit a friend in need.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Morris O. Kahn Jr. (Bud), and her daughter, Gretchen. She is survived by her sister, Lenore Cohen, of San Rafael, California; her children: Kate, Tom and Connie Lorig; great cousins, Harold and Larry Eichenbaum; and numerous first, second, and third nieces and nephews.

Memorial gifts may be made to Mazon Inc., A Jewish Response to Hunger, PO Box 96119, Washington DC 20090; Care and Share, 2605 Preamble Pt., Colorado Springs, CO 80915; Cheyenne Village, 6275 Lehman Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80918, or Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation, 2550 Tenderfoot Hill St., Colorado Springs, CO 80906.

A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.
