Obituary for Patricia Flynn

Patricia Flynn
Patricia nee Thompson Flynn passed away in her home on 27 December 2017. Pat was born to Robert and Clara Ann (Smith) Thompson in Penrith, England. She was the middle of three sisters. The eldest was Irene and the youngest was Pauline. She attended Charlotte Mason Teacher’s College (part of Manchester University) from 1961 and graduated in 1963. Upon graduation she taught history and math at middle schools in Bedford, England where she met her husband, to be, in 1964. They married in Prattville, Alabama on 19 February 1966. Pat leaves behind her devoted husband, Ed; her daughters, Amanda, and Kimberly; grandchildren whom she doted on, Ronald, and Devon Huffman, Caden, and Angus Neeley; and her great granddaughter, Isabella Huffman-Martinez. She will be missed by relatives in England, New Zealand, and Australia.

She became an Air Force wife and gave birth to their first child, Amanda, in San Antonio, Texas in 1967. They moved to Taiwan in 1968, where Pat taught at the Taipei American High School. During an assignment at the Pentagon, Pat helped found the Lilliput School at Bolling AFB in DC. While in DC, Pat gave birth to her second daughter, Kimberly, in 1970. The family moved to Colorado in 1974, and Colorado Springs has been their home ever since.

Pat always placed her family first, thus sought employment that allowed her the flexibility to avoid day care. She worked at the Union Printer’s Offices as her first job in the Springs. She has since been an award winning interior decorator, a substitute teacher for District 11, and the archdioceses of Colorado Springs schools. She has held management positions with the Olympic Training Center, Current, and Memorial Hospital. She has also given freely of her time to several volunteer positions.

Pat enjoyed traveling and living overseas. She loved activities and trips with the Senior Center. She thrived when doing her art projects, shopping for the ultimate bargain, attending opera/theater, or digging into her genealogy projects. She played tennis, racquetball, and field hockey. Outdoors was where she wanted to be, be it camping or hiking, especially at Grand Lake.

She was the one who “made Christmas”. She set the example of how to be a loving and cohesive unit. Pat will always be remembered as the matriarch of the Flynn family.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at Grace & St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 601 North Tejon Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. Private Interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
