Dwaine Clifford Nelson
December 10, 1939 – May 7, 2018

Dwaine C. Nelson passed away of lung cancer May 7, 2018. He fought a long battle but is with our Lord now.

Dwaine was born December 10, 1939 in Flandreau, South Dakota to Gladys and Clifford Nelson. He grew up on the family farm and joined the United States Army in 1958. He had a highly decorated 22-year military career, to include 2 years in Viet Nam and spending 13 years in Germany where he met his wife, Aloisia.

After his military career, Dwaine and his family settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Dwaine began his second career with the Colorado Springs Department of Utilities, managing the propane plant. After 20 years with the Utilities Department, he retired.

Dwaine is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Aloisia “Alise”; daughter, Diane (Tony); daughter, Patricia (Joseph); granddaughters: Ashley (Art), Kelsey (Tim); grandson, Nick (Jessica); and 2 great-grandsons: Luke and Benjamin; brother, LeRoy (Barbara); and nieces and nephews in the United States and Germany. Dwaine was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys, and father, Clifford.

Dwaine loved hunting and fishing. He was a good golfer and enjoyed cruising with friends and spending the winter in Arizona.

A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard. A reception will follow at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 South Union Boulevard.
