Michael P. Sanchez, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, son, and brother passed away suddenly on August 29, 2018, at the age of 83.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wilma; daughter, Terri; sons, Michael Jr., and Arnie; 5 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was born in Alamosa, Colorado on June 26, 1935. After high school, he went on to serve four years in the United States Air Force. He then met Wilma, who also grew up in the San Luis Valley. In 1957, they married and soon started a family. He then dedicated his life to furthering his education and helping others. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Adams State University in 1968. In 1970, he earned his master’s degree in social work from the University of Denver. He was a supervisor of protective services at the El Paso County Welfare Department for four years. Michael then went on to be a counselor and part-time instructor at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. In 1998, he retired as Director of Counseling and Special Programs at UCCS.
Michael enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and hunting. His greatest passion, however, was his devotion and love for his family. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Michael’s life will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a Rosary then a Mass at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 4925 North Carefree Circle, Colorado Springs, CO 80917.
