Almira “Mira” Herbert, 87, of Colorado Springs, passed away on June 29, 2016. Mira was born on June 10, 1929 in Colorado Springs to the late Harold and Willa (Townley) Hoover. After graduating from Miami Yoder High School in Rush, Colorado in 1947, Mira attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in teaching. Mira taught elementary school in Manitou Springs from 1963 until her retirement in 1983.
Mira married Harold West but the two later divorced. In 1977 she married Francis Herbert and they remained married until his passing in 2007.
Mira enjoyed card stamping, gardening, tending to her beautiful yard and spending time with family and friends. She was a 41 year member of Delta Kappa Gamma and attended Vista Grande Church of God. She was also a Colorado Natives member.
Mira is survived by her children: Linda (Robert) Deloach, Neil (Gwynne) West, Cheryl Escalante, Penny McKelvie, Lynn (Maryanne) Herbert and Larry (Jeanette) Herbert; brothers: William, Ronald and Thomas Hoover; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Hoover and two great granddaughters: Haley Wellborn and Lindsey Weber.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Private entombment will take place at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum. Following services, a reception will be held at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 South Union Boulevard.
