Anthony Gabriel Johnson passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022, in Fort Collins, Colorado. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for most of his life, and a Fort Collins resident for the last six years.
Anthony was born on December 12, 1930, to Joseph Gabriel Johnson and Alvina Emma (Boucher) Johnson in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He graduated from Colorado Springs High School, and after his military service, he attended The Colorado College to complete their undergraduate program and to obtain his Master’s Degree in Education. Anthony made a thirty-year career as an elementary school teacher, including teaching the highly academically talented groups in Colorado Springs School District 11.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954, during the Korean War, as a radio specialist. Prior to the Air Force, he served briefly in the Navy. He received the National Defense Service Medal, as well as a Good Conduct Medal.
On March 7, 1954, he married Laura Aleta Priboth in San Leandro, California. They enjoyed a lifetime together, traveling, camping, and researching family history. Anthony was a talented harmonica player and particular enjoyed time around campfire under the Colorado skies.
He is survived by his brother, Patrick Augustus Johnson (Linda Billingsley); nieces and nephews: Gretchen Watson (Leroy), Erin Lindsey Connor (Thomas), Holly Stanley Fischer (Kurt), and children of Josephine Matthewson. Anthony was preceded in death by his wife, Aleta; his parents: Joseph and Alvina Johnson; and two sisters: Mildred Stanley and Josephine Matthewson.
A cryptside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022, at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Garden of Angels.
