Antonio “Tony” Gibson passed away peacefully as a result of brain cancer on August 23, 2014. He was born in Portland, Oregon on October 26, 1940.
Tony moved to Colorado Springs 37 years ago; having lived in Idaho, California, and New Mexico, as well as several years in Chicago. He was an outdoorsman through and through. He left Nampa, Idaho after high school to begin his career as a ski-patrolman, writer, photographer and fisherman. He met his wife, Judy Wilson in Taos, New Mexico where they both worked in the ski area. They were married in Chicago in 1964. Tony graduated with a degree in photo-journalism from the University of Missouri. After several years writing for different magazines in Chicago, Tony’s love of the outdoors lead him to Colorado.
Tony Gibson possessed a great gift for storytelling, and his life’s adventures and varied careers provided lots of material! He wrote for the Colorado Springs Sun and other publications for many years. Tony ended his life on earth doing what he loved; owning and operating Colorado Fishing Adventures.
Tony is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Judy; his daughters: Katy Douthit and Liz Gibson Vargas (Arturo); grandchildren: Buster, Emerson and Arturo; half-brother, Earl McGee of Burns, Oregon; and numerous cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Vista Grande Community Church, 5460 North Union Boulevard. A reception will follow services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to VIBES (Visually Impaired Blind Skiers), c/o Diane Fitzkee, 2 Fountain Place, Manitou Springs, Colorado 80829.
