Deacon Arnold Hess
Deacon Arnold Hess, age 81, a resident of Black Forest since 2011 and formerly of San Diego, California, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at his home. He had retired as an engineer with Pacific Bell in San Diego, California. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a deacon for over 28 years in the Catholic Church.
Arnold Richard Hess was born on August 22, 1931 in Manassa, Colorado to the late Rudolph and Phoebe (Christensen) Hess. He attended schools in Long Beach, California, and was a 1949 graduate of Wilson High School in Long Beach and attended Long Beach City College. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He married Barbara Smith on May 4, 1952 in Long Beach.
He was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus of Black Forest. He was a member of Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church, and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; and four children: Teresa Fabbi and Denise (Robert) Brown, both of Colorado Springs; Kevin (Heidi) Hess of Escondido, California; and Michele (Richard) Graham of El Cajon; California. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law: Allen Fabbi; a sister: Vina Reynolds; and two brothers: Cecil and Jerry Hess.
Arnold has six wonderful grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He had a loving and kind heart and will be best remembered for his devotion for family and his faith.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. A Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church, 11020 Teachout Road in Black Forest. A reception will follow the Mass at the family home. Private inurnment will take place later at the Mount Saint Francis Columbarium.
