Ava Massaro, age 99, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at a local care center. She and her husband owned TV Specialists and Appliances from 1952 to 1976. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Ava Mae Vance was born on July 27, 1914 in Alton, Kansas to the late Earnest and Anna (Myers) Vance. She was a 1932 graduate of Norton High School, worked in the sundries department in a department store in Gem, Kansas, and met and married Albert Massaro in 1935 in Santa Monica, California. Her husband, Albert, was head chef at the Broadmoor Hotel in the 1940s.

She was a member of the Mountain Mama’s Dance Troupe and the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by her son, Robert (wife, Sandra) Massaro of Colorado Springs; and her grandchildren: Cameron (wife, Kela) Massaro of Colorado Springs; and Marshall (wife, Jodi) Massaro of Firestone, Colorado; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Massaro; daughter: Patricia Kidd; sister Oneida Wicker; and her brothers, Ben Vance and Eldred Vance.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance North Chapel, 5440 North Union Boulevard. Private entombment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Garden of Angels.
