Avery Allen Woollums was the fourth child to be born to Floyd and Blanche (Vance) Woollums in Tingley, Iowa on August 17, 1930. He graduated from Tingley High School in 1949 and served in the United States Army from 1952-1954, during the Korean War.

He married Alice M. Bowen on July 6, 1958 in Nashua, Iowa at the Historic “Little Brown Church”. Avery worked for Woodford Manufacturing Co. from 1956-1992, both in Des Moines and in Colorado Springs. He moved to Colorado Springs in 1978.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; nephews: Larry Sandefur, Bobby Jeanes; and niece, Linda Perkins; sister-in-law Barbara Snyder and several great nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings: Floyd Jr., Fern Jeanes, and Julia Sandefur.

Avery was a volunteer driver for Silver Key Meals-On-Wheels for 20 years. He was a life member of the Highland Park American Legion in Des Moines, Iowa, and a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs.

A visitation will be from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Monday, September 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 2111 Carlton Avenue. Private interment will take place at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
