B. Scott Smith Sr, affectionately known as Husky, age 79, passed away on November 14, 2024, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Scott was born to Norton W. and Evelyn B. (Robbins) Smith in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, on October 25, 1945.
Scott met the love of his life, Kathryn “Kay” (Gentile) Smith, while in high school. After graduating from Leominster High School in 1963, he attended business college for two years, and then went on to marry Kay in Leominster, Massachusetts, on September 11, 1965. Scott and Kay had three children: Scott Jr., Styles, and Sheryl. Scott moved the family to Colorado in 1973.
Scott settled his family in Colorado Springs and began a career as a restaurant/bar owner. He owned several restaurants and bars in Colorado Springs and Black Forest and could often be found alongside his wife running the show behind the bar or in the kitchen.
After many years, Scott decided he needed a career change. He sold his restaurants and bars and opened a successful insurance brokerage. Scott then went into real estate and spent many years not only developing multiple businesses but developing life-long friendships.
After retirement he knew he wanted to continue something he’d been doing since his own children were small, and Santa Scott was born. With his genuine smile, deep laugh, and jolly “Ho Ho Ho,” he embodied the magic and spirit of the holiday season, bringing joy and squeals of excitement from both children and adults alike. When Santa Scott arrived with his red sack of gifts slung over his shoulder, his gold buttons glistening, his black boots shiny, and that twinkle in his eye, you just knew you were about to experience something magical.
During the warm spring and summer months, you could find Scott continuing the magic as Santa Fe, doing jeep tours with Adventures Out West.
Even when he was not dressed in his Santa suit, kids still recognized Santa everywhere he went, and he carried coins in his pocket that said “I met Santa, I’m on the nice list” to hand to them when they approached him.
Scott is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Kathryn Smith; his children: son, Scott Smith Jr., and his wife, Kellie; son, Styles Smith; and daughter, Sheryl Smith; his brothers, Bill and Barry; his grandchildren: Bryanna; Hilaire and her husband, Paul; Cassie and her husband, Brett; Joshua and his wife, Brittany; Justin; Jacob; Jason and his wife, Tosha; David and his wife, Vanessa; and Travis; his great-grandchildren: Ethan, Dominic, Hayden, Shane, August, Amethyst, Aaron, Jordan, Olyver, and Ariya; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norton and Evelyn; his sister, Lynn; and his brother, Andy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Flutie Foundation (flutiefoundation.org) in memory of B. Scott Smith Sr.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910.
A reception will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with light lunch and refreshments provided, at Mt. Carmel Veterans Center, 530 Communication Circle, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80905.

18 Nov 2024My friend Santa Scott spread so much joy and Christmas magic to everyone he met. I will miss his jokes and how amazingly he interacted with all the kids and adults. He was full of laughter and kindness and so much love and light. Santa Scott made me believe like a little kid again. He was the real Santa, and I am so thankful to have known him and call him my friend.

18 Nov 2024Although I never met Scott personally……his lovely daughter Sheryl (with an S) is a reflection of who I believe this ‘Santa’ was. She displays ALL of his wonderful characteristics and is one of the kindest humans I have met it my 63 years….God be with the whole family at this time , and take comfort in knowing Scott is at peace with our Lord🙏❤️

18 Nov 2024The world lost a shining star, a man of love and laughter, and most important of all one of the best uncles a girl could ask for. I will miss your big bear hugs and your deep belly laughs and the love you had for everyone, especially for your family.
Aunt Kay, Scott, Styles, and Sheryl, my love and prayers are all with you right now, I know Uncle Scott is looking over you all embracing you with his larger than life spirit.

20 Nov 2024Scott was a once in a lifetime friend and we cherished our time with him. From the first time my son, Jake and I met “Santa” we experienced his sincerity, kindness, and his God-given gift of spreading Christmas magic. In a world of wonder, Scott was one of the greatest gifts. His legacy reminds us to give, love, and care.
Sleigh bells silent, heart still aglow. We love you, Santa Scott.

20 Nov 2024I am without words. Scotty was someone who impacted my life in so many ways and helped me become who I am today. Through my life, he has impacted those I have interacted with, in coaching new investors and real estate nerds. His wise words of wisdom ring true throughout time. Scotty, thank you for all you did for me and so many others! I would not be where I am without your influence and guidance. I know you are unfettered with Jesus and that you finally get to experience first hand all He promises! With infinite gratitude, Pae

20 Nov 2024I knew Scott when he was Scotty in high school. And I met all the loving, bigger than life Gentile family through him. I followed his brother and some Gentiles to CO because he was here. And I sent people to CO before that because he was here. Scott and Kay together cemented uncountable relationships and lives, mine being one. I always think of them as surrounded by people and activity — Scott in the center like an anchor — feeding all the movement around him. We grew apart as happens to aging people in different spaces but knowing he’s not a stone’s throw away is a pain in my heart. My cousin’s family has always been my second family which I needed to fashion my own life. For Kay, Bill, Barry and all the nieces and nephews you nurtured, Scott Jr. and Styles and Sheryl, your kids and their kids, Santa Claus will be a presence in your life every day of the year. I can’t be there on Tuesday, but my heart is with you while you deal with the profound sense of loss that I feel, too, for a big guidepost among us. Scott and Kay, I love you.

20 Nov 2024I had the honor of traveling the jeep road with Scott (Sante Fe). He was an inspiration everyday the way he made the visitors happy and excited to be on an adventure. He always cared about people, his faith and his family. I will miss him as a great friend and mentor.

21 Nov 2024In the mid 1960’s Scott sat with the Rooney kids while our mother went to night school. I remember him as a fun loving guy. His brother Barry and I became good friends. His family are in my prayers.

22 Nov 2024To Santa Scott’s family…we just heard about your loss and are so very very sorry. Scott became such a huge part of our family in such a short time. He was so patient with my Autistic grandson and really brought his magic to my granddaughter. He was Santa, no doubt about it and for two years in a row my children, my grandchildren, my spouse and myself loved our visit with him and Mrs Claus. Just wanted to thank you for sharing him with us. I am sure he will be greatly missed by so many other families just like mine.
