Ben L. Modrell, age 83 passed away on October 4, 2014. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for 50 years and was formerly a resident of Kansas City, Kansas. He was a contractor, carpenter.
Ben was born on June 9, 1931 in Kansas City, Kansas to Robert and Maudia Modrell. He joined the Air Force after High School and served in Greenland. Ben married Mary Ann on February 14, 1954 in Salina, Kansas.
In 1956 Ben started Modrell Construction Company and built custom homes in Salina, KS. He moved his family to Colorado Springs in 1964 and worked in construction eventually starting his own companies Foremost Construction and First General Services. In his retirement he continued woodworking and did custom projects. Ben and Mary started Rocky Mountain Bird Cabins and enjoyed meeting folks at craft fairs.
Ben’s greatest joy beyond his family was woodworking. He also enjoyed scuba diving and skiing, and had explored much of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Ben Is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Mary, and his children, Susan and husband Bob Warren, Brenda and her husband Dan Bartlett and Ben Jr. He also enjoyed his 5 grandchildren Derek, Logan, Staci, Kelsie and Jake.
A memorial service will be held on October 24, 2014 at the Shrine of Remembrance at 2pm, located at 1730 E Fountain Blvd Colorado Springs, Colorado.
