Bernadine Ann (Subala) True passed away suddenly on March 18, 2012, at her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Bernadine (Bernie) was born on June 23, 1948 in Detroit Michigan to the late Lauro O. and Sophia (Makos) Subala. The second oldest of four children, she attended Detroit area schools, graduating from St. Cecilia High School in 1966. She began working immediately following graduation as a legal secretary for American Automobile Association (AAA) Detroit in the litigation department. She attended high school with Michael J. True, and after a long distance courtship, Okinawa to Detroit, they were married on October 1, 1971. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 2011.
Bernie accompanied her husband on assignments with the Air Force for 20+ years. Her first trip overseas was to England, RAF Orfordness and RAF Upper Heyford, and later with Michael and their sons to assignments in Florida, Washington state, Crete Greece, and Colorado. She and Michael retired in Colorado Springs in 1994 following a final assignment at Falcon (now Schriever) Air Force Base. Throughout her husband’s career, Bernie was active with military church groups overseas. She enjoyed ceramics, sewing, and the ever present Keeshond puppy.
Bernie is survived by her husband, Michael; her two sons, Jeffrey and Scott; her sister, Maria Gardner (William); and her two brothers, Fred (Marilyn) and Ken.
Memorial services are planned for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the Peterson Air Force Base Chapel, 455 Vincent Street, Building 1410, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado 80914.
