Betty Doris Rigdon
August 31, 1919 – August 23, 2015
Betty Doris Rigdon, 95, a longtime resident of Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs, CO passed away in Colorado Springs on August 23, 2015.
She was born August 31, 1919 to Roderick William Watts and Elizabeth Mary Toth in Ann Arbor, MI. Betty married Roy Leon Rigdon July 5, 1941 in Emporia, KS.
European vacations and cruises, as well as spending her summers in Pitkin, CO were a few of many activities that Betty enjoyed.
She realized her dream of becoming a registered nurse late in life and was a nurse at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo and Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.
Being the Past President of the Manitou Springs Women’s Club, Past Worthy Matron (Order of the Eastern Star, Ruxton Chapter #10), and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary (Post #39) are among the legacies that she leaves.
Betty lived independently up until the last year of her life. She could make any situation positive and always had a smile on her face.
She is survived by her two sons, James (Linda) Rigdon and Thomas Rigdon; her two granddaughters, Rachelle Rigdon and Sadie Rigdon; and three great-grandchildren, all of Colorado Springs; and a son-in-law, Larry Leverenz, of West Lafayette, IN. Betty was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her daughter, Linda Leverenz. Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held at a later date at Crystal Valley Cemetery in Manitou Springs.
