Buel Green Looney, Sr.
November 17, 1929 – February 23, 2013
Staff Sargent Buel G. Looney, United States Air Force (ret.), age 83, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs, passed away on February 23, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He had retired after serving his country for more than 20 years in the United States Army Air Corps and Air Force.
Buel Green Looney was born on November 17, 1929 in Camdenton, Missouri to the late Acel and Edith (Breedlove) Looney. He married Mary Ann Schoenberner on August 21, 1950. Mary survives and lives in Colorado Springs.
Retired Air Force SSGT Buel joined the Army at age 17 and served in Guam during the time of occupying forces in Japan. He then joined the Air Force and served 20 years during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Buel retired in 1968 and took his family to Colorado Springs to live.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Ann of 62 and a half years of marriage; daughter: Elaine S. Hall; and sons: Edward “David” (wife, Joyce); James D. (wife, Floria “Jo”); and Buel G. Jr. (wife, Susan). He is also survived by grandchildren: William Wathen, Jr.; Virginia White; Orion (wife, Elizabeth); and Cheyenne Rose; and great-grandchildren: Keeli S. Wathen; Isabel Leech, Cora Mosako; and Zeah Serenity Looney. He is also survived by three brothers: Harold, Claude “Mark,” and Andy, Sr.; and two sisters: Acely and Annie. Buel was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rhonda Lynn Wathen.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2013 at the Peterson Air Force Base Chapel. Private interment will take place at a future date at the Southern Colorado National Cemetery.
