Carol Jean Syler, age 80, passed away on June 24, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for 38 years, and was formerly a resident of Chicago, Illinois. She, along with her husband Ben Syler, owned and operated A-1 Crane and Steel Erection.
Carol was born on December 20, 1934 to Clarence (Kelly) Bjork and Ella (Winiczay) Bjork in Chicago, Illinois. She and Ben married in 1982.
Carol’s greatest joy was her grandchildren. She adored each of them, and was happiest knowing one or more was on their way for a visit. She also loved animals, particularly her “babies,” Sugar and Missy (both rescue dogs). She was an advocate for all animals, and supported the Pikes Peak Humane Society.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ben; her daughters, Kim, Becky, and Lorri; and her grandchildren, Matt, Chris, and Danny (Kim & George Bolling), McKenna Basara (Milan Basara & Renee Ray), Lucas (Becki & Shane Elms), and Jordan and Ian (Lorri & Greg Voss). She was preceded in death by her son, Milan Basara, and grandson, Joshua Basara.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel on Saturday, June 27, at 3:00 PM.
Memorials in Carol Syler’s name may be made to the Pikes Peak Humane Society.
