March 6, 1933 – January 4, 2022

Carol Sue Shugart Pfeifer, age 88, passed away January 4, 2022, surrounded by family. She was born in El Paso County, Colorado, to Jesse “Jess” Calvin Shugart and Elsie Ann Orcutt Shugart and was later raised near Rush, Colorado, by her mother and stepfather, Thomas “Tommy” McConnell.

Carol met Clarence Edward Pfeifer at a dance in Hugo, Colorado, whom she married in 1953 at Camp Carson following his return from front-line service in the Korean War. They resided briefly  in Wisconsin until Clarence’s discharge from the Army, then moved to Colorado Springs where they resided until death. Carol began her professional career in Colorado Springs at Farmers Insurance where she was employed until the birth of their first child in 1961. She held multiple positions at Farmers before attaining her final role as a policy rater. Carol joined Clarence in starting their own business in 1967, Arrow Plumbing and Heat, where she served as bookkeeper until her retirement.

Carol preferred staying busy and did so juggling her roles as a homemaker, mother, and  bookkeeper for their family business, in addition to enjoying her numerous hobbies. She was a founding member of a women’s Canasta card club and participated throughout its existence spanning decades. Carol was an excellent seamstress with proficient skill in making anything ranging from window drapes to evening gowns. She also had a talent for making silk floral arrangements and holiday wreaths which she sold to help fund her and Clarence’s mutual affinity for playing slot machines.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Eileen Paddock, as well as her husband, Clarence, who passed in 2015. She is survived by her son, Blake Pfeifer and daughter-in-law, Dawn, and her son, Jeffrey Pfeifer and daughter-in-law, Sandy Castellucci, all of whom reside in Colorado Springs.

Viewing will be offered Saturday, January 22, 2022, beginning at 10:00 a.m., prior to her 11:00 a.m. memorial service at Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs.
