Catherine A. Barrett
September 24, 1947-October 15, 2018
Catherine “Cathy” Ann Barrett went home to her Lord on October 15, 2018. She had been a resident of Colorado Springs for the last 26 years. As an Air Force spouse, she also lived in Germany, Rome, NY, Peru, IN, Tucson, AZ, Oscoda, MI, and Italy.
Cathy was born on September 24th, 1947 to James R. VanSlambrouck & June L. (Maloche) in Monroe, MI. Oldest of 8, she was raised on the shores of Lake Erie before the family moved into town to be closer to the action of what a busy family entail. She married Randall “Randy” A. Barrett on April 11, 1969 in Monroe, MI.
Cathy loved to read, sing, and play board games; she was a champion at word games. She dabbled in the arts, often sharing her creations with others. In addition to her career as a loving homemaker, which spanned a lifetime, Cathy had a few careers that brought joy to others. From Nurse’s Aide, to Campfire Director, to Tupperware Manager, to Catholic Liturgist, she always found ways to make peoples’ lives better.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Randy; their children: Melissa (James) King, Cecelia (Thor) Barrett Thomas, Bernard Barrett, Mollye “Kyanite” Barrett, Emily (JJ) Clark; her siblings: Jean (Bill) Hetrick, Patrick (Colleen) VanSlambrouck, Andrew VanSlambrouck, Veronica VanSlambrouck, Mary Alice VanSlambrouck, Richard (Vicki) VanSlambrouck; 10 grandchildren & 4.5 great grandchildren; many nieces & nephews; and friends she held very dear. She was preceded in death by her brother, Michael VanSlambrouck; and her grandson, Andrew Michael King.
We will be honoring Cathy with a Vigil at 6:30 p.m. on November 2nd and a Memorial Mass on November 3rd at 1 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life. Everything will take place at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 8755 Scarborough Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80920. Interment will be at the Pikes Peak VA Cemetery to be held at a later date.

20 Oct 2018I send my condolence to Cathy’s family. I met her in the late 60’s before she married my brother. She had an interest in God’s Word, the Bible. May her memories help all of you. ‘A grand future awaits!’

6 Nov 2018Randy, I am really sorry to hear Cathy is gone. Dianne and really enjoyed knowing you two when we were at Peterson and in the Pikes Peak Council. I hadn’t realized we had so much in common, age and marriage length especially. I was born in 1947, Dianne in in 1948, and we also married in 1969. I know there will be a hole in your life, but hold onto the good memories you and she made together. I hope you and your family will find comfort in each other and in those memories.
