Charles Duane Michael, 77, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. Chuck was born on June 23, 1938 to Fredrick and Anna (Jamarke) Michael in Alma, Michigan. He grew up in Bay City, Michigan and graduated from Bay City High School.

Chuck proudly dedicated 20 years of his life to military service of this country. He achieved the rank of CW3 Warrant Officer as a helicopter pilot and flew countless missions during the Vietnam War, receiving numerous commendations including the Bronze Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross. After his retirement from the U.S. Army, he began a new fifteen year career as an electrician until retirement.

Chuck was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, camp, cook, garden, travel and discuss politics. His love of nature was evident in his beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. Additionally, he loved large family gatherings and baking cookies for his great grandchildren.

Chuck is survived by his six children: Rosita (Joe) Hendricks, Bregitte (Mark) Bishop, Brenda (Gary) Thompson, Inge (Richard) Tumbaga, Lonnie (Debi) Matheny and Charles Michael, Jr.; his sister, Dorothy and his brothers: Fred and Harald as well as thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren plus his many nieces and nephews.

Chuck was preceded in death by his loving wife, Emmy; his daughter, Denise and his parents.

Chuck was a devoted husband, father, friend, grandfather and great grandfather. We will miss him always.

A memorial service and military honors will be held on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. A private interment will be held at a military cemetery at a later date.
