Charles Katalenas 2

Charles Joseph Katalenas, a father, brother, uncle, combat Veteran, and friend passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 86. Charles was born in Shamokin, Pennsylvania and served in the United States Army from 1949 until his retirement in 1971 as a Sergeant First Class. Charles retired from Kmart as an auto mechanic and general manger. He then held other positions for Ft. Carson Commissary and Aspen Tree Golf Course and volunteered in the community with various food ministries.

Chuck was also a member of St. Dominic’s Church, and the Knights of Columbus. His interests included gardening, golf and volunteering to help others.

His military awards include:
Army Commendation Medal
Army Good Conduct Medal 5th Award
Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars
Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device

Charles was married to Liliana Savastano on November 25, 1954 whom he met while stationed in Italy. Their love and support for each other over the last 63rd years has been a firm foundation for the family.

Chuck will be loved and missed by his surviving wife Liliana, and is survived by his brother Robert and Beverly Katalenas, and sister Phylis Miller, son Charles and Marta Katalenas, daughters Elizabeth and Tom Medina, Patricia and Donald Gioscia, Michelle and Martin Sohlberg along with 10 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday August 14th, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Dominic’s Church. Inurnment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum at the St. Pope John Paul II Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
