Charlotte Berkey BerglundCharlotte Berkey Berglund
September 7, 1945 – October 10, 2018

Charlotte Berkey Berglund went to be with the Lord on October 10, 2018 after a brief illness. She was 73.

Char was born on September 7, 1945 in Minneapolis, MN to Ione Peterson Berkey and John Wolf Berkey. She graduated from Fargo (ND) Central High School in 1963 and from the University of Wisconsin in 1967 before beginning a career as a teacher. She was a life-long member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Char is survived by her first husband, Fred Brown (San Antonio, TX), and by Arthur James Berglund (Colorado Springs, CO) to whom she was married since 1997; her daughters, Mary Catherine (Martin) Jacobi (Bern, Switzerland) and Josselyn Berkey (Aaron) Stern (Fort Collins, CO); her brother, Jack Wolf Berkey (Broomfield, CO); and her adored grandchildren of whom she was extremely proud – Anika, Luca, Noah and Marlena Jacobi, and Parker, Cohen, Brooks and Smith Stern.

Char was an active member of the Broadmoor Golf Club where she played golf and tennis, winning many tournaments. She recorded six verified holes-in-one after learning the game from Art. She also enjoyed her Bible study and book club. Most of all, she loved the women with who she played, studied and became friends. Through Art and the international ice hockey community, she visited 27 countries.

A memorial service will take place at 11 am on Saturday, October 20 at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Colorado Springs, followed by a reception at Penrose House (1661 Mesa Avenue). An open house for Char’s friends will be held on Friday, October 19, starting at 5:30 pm at the USA Hockey national headquarters at 1775 Bob Johnson Drive.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Tee Pikes Peak or Bible Study Fellowship International.

This Obituary Has One Condolence

  1. My heartfelt sympathy to the family. In her study of the Bible, Charlotte no doubt got to know of the earthly resurrection that was promised by God and His son Jesus. “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” (John 5:28,29) Charlotte will be returned to you. The Bible gives us hope.
