Clara M. Remele
March 13, 1919 – July 1, 2018
Clara Mae Remele passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018 from the result of a fall on May 25 from which she sustained 6 broken ribs and was unable to recover.
Clara was born on March 13, 1919, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Earl and Mabel Connors.
She graduated from high school and the University of Pittsburgh, with a BA in Education. She married Jack H. Remele on March 13, 1942, right after he received a regular Army Commission. She was a loving wife to her husband, raised 3 daughters, and loved the army life, traveling around the world and living in such places as Germany, Wales, Japan and Panama plus stateside in Texas, Wisconsin and Colorado. Her husband, Lt. Col. Jack H. Remele, retired after his tour of duty in 1971, staying in Colorado Springs, their last stateside tour of duty, a place they both loved. They made their life and home in Colorado Springs since moving here in 1966.
Clara was an avid duplicate bridge player, a Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League, and director of a duplicate bridge club for 22 years in Colorado Springs at the Bridge Center. She was a member of the Cheyenne Mountain Duplicate Bridge Club.
Clara was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Centennial Chapter, and a Past Guardian of Job’s Daughters, Bethel #23.
Clara was active in the military life and in military retirement, serving as President of The Retired Officer’s Wives Club, the Auxiliary Representative for the Military Officer’s Association of America (MOAA), and as Treasurer of the MOAA Singles, a job she just gave up in May of 2018.
She was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church and served on their Endowment Committee for many years. She supported the El Paso County Humane Society and adopted several cats from them. She also supported the MOAA scholarship program and the scholarship named in memory of her husband.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her younger brother, Gerald Connors; and her husband, Jack, who died June 11, 1995. Clara is survived by her three daughters: Barbara Pirch, Carol Starr (Gina), and Linda Remele (Steve); along with grandchildren: Jennifer Haddix, Steve Haddix (Marjory), Scott Haddix (Debbie), Chantel Curbo (Oski), and Jonathan Niven; her great-grandchildren: Jordan Haddix, Alexandra Haddix, Julie Ann Haddix, Joshua Haddix, Christopher Haddix, and Emelia Curbo; and great-great grandson, Alexander Haddix; and her cat, Lovey. She is also survived by informally “adopted daughters,” Alison Cumming (Greg), Cheryl Johnson and Jean Wetjen (Jeff).
Services will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2505 North Circle Drive, Colorado Springs on Friday, July 6 at 11 AM.
