Col. Marvin D. “Doc” Fleming

Col. Marvin D. “Doc” Fleming, USAF (Ret.), age 97, a long time resident of Colorado Springs, passed away on August 10, 2012 at his home. He had retired after serving his country in the United States Air Force for 23 years and the United States Civil Service for 16 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Marvin Daniel Fleming was born on July 4, 1915 to the late Oscar C. and Hollie E. (Sullivan) Fleming. He was a 1940 graduate of Colorado State University and remained a loyal alumnus until his passing. He served in the United States Army Air Corps, now the U.S. Air Force from 1940 until 1963, retiring at the rank of Colonel. He later worked in the Air Reserve Personnel Center for 16 years and retired in 1981 at the age of 65.
He was a member of Oasis Lodge #67, AF AM in Ft. Morgan, Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Consistory. He married Margaret Tunks on February 2, 1942 in Missoula, Montana. The Flemings celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary this year. Together they raised three children, enjoyed square dancing, and loved to travel. They visited all 50 states, numerous foreign countries, and seven continents. Doc was a sports enthusiast and will be best remembered for his easy going nature and his patriotism.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margo; his son: Mark Fleming; his daughters: Linda (husband, Tom) Camblin; and Pamela “Teddi” (husband, Bob) Vollaire; his grandchildren: Tammi (husband, Mike) Anderson; Cheryl (husband, Keith) Sparks; Melissa (husband, Adam) Welfelt; Tara (husband, Paul) Kesig; and Ryan (wife, Diana) Fleming; and his great-grandchildren: Riley Sparks and Grayson Welfelt.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Reception following the service will be held at Peak Grill, 4423 Centennial Blvd., Colorado Springs.
