Colonel Charles B. Modisett, USA (Ret.)
Retired Army Colonel Charles B. Modisett died November 1, 2012 at his home in Black Forest. Colonel Modisett, a graduate of Texas A&M, the US Army Command and General Staff College, the USAF Air War College—and a career soldier, was a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam with a total of some nine years overseas. He earned numerous decorations and awards, including the Legion of Merit with two Oak Leaf Clusters.
Colonel Modisett was born in rural East Texas on April 26, 1925 to Charles A. and Bertie (McGaughey) Modisett, the eldest of five children. He married Gloria J. Hilliard of Exeter, New Hampshire, June 21, 1952 in Tokyo. Their marriage of 60 years was blessed by four children: Sandra (and Alan) Palmore, Craig (and Denise) Modisett, Donna (and Charlie) Stewart, and David (and Susan) Modisett; and wonderful grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother: Cary Modisett; and two sisters: Kay McFarland and Moddy Jaderlund. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim.
Charlie and Gloria were a fun-loving couple through the good and the bad times, and have lived in the Colorado Springs area since 1970. They enjoyed travel, camping, the great outdoors of mountains and oceans, and the Academy Christian Church, where both are members and have many dear friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2012 at Academy Christian Church, 1635 Old Ranch Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80908. Inurnment will take place at the Shrine of Remembrance Chapel Mausoleum.
Prior to his death Colonel Modisett suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to either the Academy Christian Church or Black Forest Fire Rescue, 11445 Teachout Road, Black Forest, CO 80908.
