Colonel Eric H. Bolz, Jr. USA (Ret.)
August 22, 1930 – March 24, 2014

Colonel Eric H. Bolz, Jr. passed away on March 24, 2014 at Emeritus at Broadmoor Alzheimer care facility. He was 83.

Eric was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 22, 1930 to Eric Herman Bolz and Ruth Kaehlert. Raised in Cicero, Illinois, he joined the U.S. Army in 1948 and served his country as a Signal Officer for over 42 years.

While stationed at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, he met Joan Lois Zidlick who became the love of his life. They were married on November 12, 1953 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. Eric and Joan raised three boys, Jeffrey Duane, Dwight David, and Jonathan Rand.

Eric’s last tour of duty brought the family from Germany to Fort Carson, Colorado. After he left the service, he and Joan started a small vending business known as A-OK Vending, Inc. The business grew and after 25 years of working together it was time to retire.

Eric is survived by his wife, Joan; two sons: David (Kathleen), and Jonathan; one grandson, Ryan Thomas Bolz; and three brothers: Elmer (Eve), Robert (Carol), and Gregory (Donna). He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey; a sister, Lillian; and brothers: Bruce, Wayne, Kenneth, and Emil.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. Private inurnment will take place at Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Veterans Honor Court Columbarium.
