Colonel J. Henry Ennen, USMC (Ret.)
Colonel J. Henry Ennen, USMC (Ret.) age 93, a resident of Colorado Springs since 2009 and formerly of Mission Viejo, California passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at his home. He had retired after serving his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps for over 32 years. He was a retired Marine Aviator, loving husband, father and grandfather.
Junior Henry Ennen was born on February 15, 1920 in Lincoln, Nebraska to the late Henry N. and Elsie M. (Delaney) Ennen. He was a 1939 graduate of Lincoln High School, enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He entered UCLA where he played football and was later drafted into the San Francisco 49ers professional football franchise. He then served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and Vietnam. His last assignment was at the Pentagon.
Henry married Maxine Smith Carlton on June 11, 1959 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Maxine survived and lives in Colorado Springs.
Colonel Ennen is also survived by his children: John (Jo Anne) Ennen of Bothell, Washington and Sharon (Mark) Clark of Colorado Springs. He has six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two children: Connie Hillman in 2011 and Jeff Carlton in 2012. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers: Leland Ennen and Keith Ennen.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 23, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services in the Chapel.
A reception will follow at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center. Private interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. Memorials in his name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
