Curtis “Curt” Alvin Schumacher, 63, went home to be with the Lord on August 6, 2014. He was granted his wish that in his passing he would be in the comfort of his home.
Curt was born June 21, 1951 to Alvin H. and Evelina “Evie” A. Schumacher in Aberdeen, SD. Curt was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Roscoe, SD which he remained a member of for many years.
On July 3, 1973 he married Martha “Deanie” Dean Allen in Miami, OK.
Curt attended K-12 at Roscoe Public School graduating with the class of 1969. He was active in school and participated in all sporting events and held high school track records. As a young boy he helped with grain farming with his father and brothers.
Curt attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD, he was then drafted by the United States Army and left in June 1971 to serve our country which he served honorably for over 24 years and retired as First Sergeant. He received many awards and decorations in the years he served.
His military assignments included Washington, Kansas, Georgia, and Colorado. Curt also served in Korea, Germany, Japan, and temporary duty assignments in Alaska, Hawaii, England, Southeast Asia and Central America. His last active duty assignment was as the Deputy Commandant of the Noncommissioned Officers Academy located at Fort Carson, Colorado. Upon retirement from active duty in July 1995, he worked as a NCOA Counselor and then as a Field Membership Developer for four years. He had been a Trustee and Chapter Advisor for Mountain Post Chapter for many years. He was instrumental in getting a contract with PPIR for parking and fence line security as a fundraiser for the chapter. He then worked as the local Project Management, Sales, and Marketing Director for Pro/File Systems Inc. Most recently, Curt owned and operated Warrior Project Management Services in Colorado Springs.
Sir Curt served as the Knight Commander of the Rocky Mountain Knights Council from 2005 thru 2008. He had held various Chapter positions since 1987 and had received almost every award the Association offered. His peers within the Association’s Knights of the Squire Table had selected Sir Curt to serve as their Grand Knight beginning 22 July, 2010. Both Curt and his wife Martha (Deanie) are Life Members of the Non Commissioned Officers Association’s Mountain Post Chapter #0154 and Mountain Post Auxiliary Chapter #0155 at Fort Carson, Colorado.
He loved spending time with family and friends but most enjoyed watching his favorite football teams, Denver Broncos and Alabama Crimson Tide. He enjoyed all sports and was a season ticket holder for many pro and college sporting events. He followed the Colorado Avalanche, Air Force Falcons and NASCAR. He loved to golf and played in many golf tournaments as well to go to the mountains with friends to hunt elk. He also loved music and in his younger days along with some of his buddies had a rock band named the Sunday Morning Blues. In this band he sang vocals and played the organ. Their music could be heard on the airways as they cut a few records. Curt was a grill master and nothing pleased him more than having many cookouts serving up his finger licking ribs. He was always trying to perfect his own personal BBQ sauce always trying something new and serving it up to his family and friends. If you went away hungry that was your problem. Curt will be greatly missed by his family and attending Bronco games will not be the same. He will be remembered for his great smile, his outgoing personality and his willingness to help others.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Deanie; children: Jim (Francine) Schumacher of Columbus, GA, Tammy (Wes) Hedricks, and Terri Lee Schumacher; siblings: Mark (Teresa, and children, Michaela and Tyler) Schumacher, Keith (Lisa and son, Mathew) Schumacher, and Gwen Schumacher all of Colorado Springs; grandchildren: Tiffany, Warren, CJ, Illana, Dylan and Brandon; great-grandchildren: Angel, Ayana, Evaine, Amelia, Caydon, Bella, Jayla, and Jaden.
