David George Williams, age 76, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, was called by his Lord on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, with his wife of 55 years by his side. He was born on July 3, 1947, in Schenectady, New York.
Dave was a family man who cherished his wife, LaVonne (Carlson); and was a devoted father to his sons: Scott (Alicia) of Sammamish, WA, and Brett (Heather) of Fishers, IN. Dave was also a proud grandfather to his granddaughter, Taylor; and grandsons: Luke and Oarin. He is survived by sisters: Dianne (Gunter) and Cindy (David); and brothers: Joe (Cindy), Mark (Nancy), Bill and Gary. Dave has a large extended family, including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, Willie Williams; his stepfather, Joseph Backowski, Sr.; and his mother, Elizabeth Williams Backowski.
Dave served his country with honor and dedication as a member of the United States Air Force from January 14, 1966, to July 24, 1969, as a radio operator/communications specialist with secret clearance. After his military service, he pursued a career as a Union Carpenter for 10 years before joining the Colorado Springs Fire Department, where he served his community for 26 years. While serving with the Fire Department, and because of his love for all animals, he volunteered for and received training in the safe handling of reptiles.
In his free time, Dave followed his passion for fishing and was an avid sports fan, particularly of baseball and football (just ask him for a sport statistic and he could tell you who, what, when and where). He loved spending time with his family and was known for his adventurous spirit. He particularly enjoyed traveling the world with his beloved wife.
Dave was a member of Grace Lutheran Church (Prior: Our Savior’s Lutheran) in Colorado Springs where he participated on many committees and enjoyed contributing ideas for various church projects.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Dave’s life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at 1128 E. Boulder Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. A reception following the Memorial Service will be held in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Inurnment will follow at 2:00 PM at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80925.

Dave’s generous spirit and the love for his family and friends will be deeply missed.
