Deborah Nowland, born December 8th, 1944, died Saturday, February 17th, 2024 at the age of 79.
She is survived by son, Stephen Nowland, daughter, Kimberly Nowland, and granddaughter, Elsie Jordan Militti.
As a parent, she brought curiosity and adventure into our everyday lives. Hikes, road trips, skiing and time studying nature were some of the ways she encouraged her children and grandchild to explore the world.
In her professional life, she was a well-respected cardiac nurse. She comforted and cared for those in need with compassionate and competent care.
She met Bill Nowland on a last-minute blind date while in Nursing School in Ohio. Although Bill was away often, they kept a hand-written correspondence with one another and saw each other as often as possible. Debbie married Bill Nowland in 1965. She adopted Colorado as her new home. They were married for 58 years! They raised two children, three dogs, several goldfish and many hamsters.
Later in life, through singing with the Velvet Hills Chorus, she developed a community of friends and participated in community outreach opportunities often. Through this organization she greatly delighted in performing in the Southwest region and nationally.
Even in her final days, as long as she was able, she held a tenderness for any pain she saw in others. She was often seen offering a comforting hand to another.
In addition to her love of family, tending to others, and singing, she will be remembered for her sense of humor, pie crusts and the love for her dog, Jake. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
A memorial service will be held at the Fairview Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 28th. A celebration of life will be held at the Bear Creek Nature Center on Saturday, June 29th from 1:00-3:00 PM.

21 Apr 2024Debbie was my sister-in-law for all those years she and Bill, my brother, were married so long ago.
I adored her and was so fortunate to know her that I’m still amazed that she is gone.
She and Bill are joined in Heaven and they will be always remembered.
