Dolores Poncher Steward
Dolores passed peacefully from pneumonia on Thursday, February 21, 2013.
Dolores was born December 13, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa. She grew up in Oklahoma and moved to Chicago as a young adult. She was pre-deceased by her parents Clarence and Vaudelle Beatty, and her brother Girard Beatty.
Dolores’ first husband was Sam Poncher who passed away in Colorado Springs in 1986. They married in1950 in Chicago and retired to Colorado Springs in 1969. Dolores then married Richard “Dick” Steward in 1988 and resided in the Springs until Dick passed away in 2002. At the age of 78 Dolores moved into Village of Skyline and battled with Alzheimer’s for several years.
Dolores was blessed with an exciting and beautiful life. She was an incredible wife, mother, and grandmother. Dolores throughout her life was involved and contributed to various charities. Her passions were bridge, singing, and reading. Her relatives and friends will remember her wit, her elegance, and her spunky personality. She was a true “diva” through the end!
She is survived by her daughter Margaret (Maggi) Poncher Johnson, and her adult grandchildren Samantha and Jared Johnson. She also maintained a close relationship with her nephew James Beatty of Rockwall, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of one’s choice is appreciated greatly.
A memorial service will be at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Grace & St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 601 N. Tejon St. 80903.
