Domie L. Shanks, age 79, passed away January 18, 2016 at home in Colorado Springs with family and loved ones at her side. She was born on December 9, 1936 to Frank and Chonita (Atencio) Espinoza in Fairfield, California.

Domie grew up and lived in Minturn and Leadville, Colorado prior to coming to Colorado Springs in 1969 with her husband, Clarence James Shanks, Sr., who she married in 1956 in Taos, New Mexico.

Domie was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colorado Springs and loved spending time in the outdoors. She particularly enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with family. She was also an excellent cook who owned her own restaurant business.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, William and Clarence “Junior” Shanks; and one daughter, Nancy (husband Benny) Silva; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Lujan and Maggie Espinoza; and one brother, Sammy Espinoza.

She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Larry and James Shanks; one daughter, Peggy Shanks; her parents and other sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1830 S. Corona Ave., Colorado Springs followed by a reception, also at the church. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27th at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Inurnment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Garden of Tranquility.

Domie will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.
