Donald Norman Smith

Donald Norman Smith, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1973, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014. He was retired from the United States Air Force and had served in Vietnam.

Donald was born on October 22, 1939 outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Benjamin M. Smith and Eleanor D. (Dawson) Smith. He was raised by his step father Charles and mother Eleanor D. (Dawson) Long.

He was a member of VFW Post 101 and had been a former Commander of Colorado. He was the owner of Foremost Construction and First General Services. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, traveling, reading, and politics.

He is survived by his children: Scott Smith of Colorado Springs, Jeffrey Smith of Jacksonville, Florida, Mary Roig of Baltimore, Maryland, David Smith of Colorado Springs, and Sandra Delany (husband Brian) of Colorado Springs; a brother, “Buck” Charles Long, Jr. of Parkville, Maryland; a sister, Judy Moss of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 10 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Poole.

A memorial service will be held in Don’s honor on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel.
