Donald Arlo Pence passed away on February 8, 2021 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Don was born on June 22, 1929 to Ralph and Hazel (Buck) Pence in Springfield, Ohio. He met Joyce Goodman when she was 6 years old at a church camp meeting. They were childhood friends. Don’s family moved to San Antonio, Texas where he grew up. He served in the Air Force from 1947 through 1950.
Don was interested in prospecting and went to Colorado. One particular gem was drawing him. Joyce Goodman had moved to Colorado with her mother and sister. Don and Joyce were married on November 15, 1955; when they moved to Texas for a year, before moving back to Colorado. Don was an electrician and refrigeration technician.
Don is survived by his wife, Joyce; a sister, Rhea Nancy; three nephews and a niece.

28 Feb 2021Dear Joyce, I saw Don’s name in the Gazette. Don was a dear friend of my dad, Herbert Smith. Just wanted to share with you how much Don meant to dad. You may already know dad has been passed for many years now. Don was his best friend for many years, prospecting and working in the Lodge.
You painted a picture for my mother, Myrle. It was of a path through Fall colors. My younger daughter, Christine has it hanging on a wall in her home.
Know you miss Don and hope the many years of marriage gives you comfort,
Sincerely, JoAnn Smith
