Donald Toncray, 69, was called home to his Lord on November 15, 2015. The son and precious gift to the late Howard and Donna Toncray, Don was born May 19, 1946. Despite the challenges associated with cerebral palsy, Don lived his life to its fullest, and brought joy to all who knew him. A Colorado Springs native, he was a history buff and had a great fascination for the history of the city. He also had a special love for Penrose/St. Francis hospital and was a recipient of the Sister Myra James Bradley Award.
Don had an astonishing and accurate memory, which allowed him to share in great detail local history and stories with his many friends and pals. He was also a voracious reader and spent many a day fully absorbed in a good book. A student at UCCS, his hunger for learning was a constant, and he loved to discuss with his family caregivers and friends everything he was learning. Although his words did not always come easily, a conversation with Don was always interesting and engaging. He often entertained his friends with good stories and wonderful songs. In spite of his physical challenges, Don also enjoyed golf lessons, fishing and bowling with friends, and even dancing at weddings. Don was raised at First United Methodist Church, and was a devoted member of Foothills Missionary Church.
Don leaves behind a devoted family of caregivers, friends and people whose lives were touched by him. His special faith and devotion to God continues to shine brightly in our memories.
A service celebrating the life of Don will be held on Thursday, December 3rd in the Lehmberg Chapel at First United Methodist Church at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Foothills Missionary Church, 2500 Busch Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80904.
