Donna Marie Hansen, 82, of Alamosa, Colorado, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2021 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Donna was born in Manassa, Colorado, the daughter of the late Fred Geist and Norma Fay (Schofield) Geist on June 13, 1939. She was raised and educated in Monte Vista, Colorado. She married her longtime friend and High School sweetheart, Lanny R. Hansen, in 1956, going on to have two sons, Fred and Danny. They owned and ran a successful antique business in Monte Vista for many years, until 1975 when life for Donna changed tremendously after a horrific hunting accident took the life of her beloved husband, Lanny, long before his time. After being widowed at a young age Donna was forced to play the role of mother and father in a time when that wasn’t common. Despite the struggles, she always provided a loving and warm home for her sons and instilled in them strong values that have served them well to this day.
Donna was passionate about antiquing, reading, cooking, traveling and of course spending time with her family and dear friends. She and her sister Carol were avid readers and loved nonfiction. They had amassed a quite impressive personal library over the years. She was crazy about all animals, big and small, but, her biggest love was probably chocolate!! 🙂 When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found in her yard admiring and feeding wildlife. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her smile. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Besides her parents, Fred and Fay Geist, Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Lanny Hansen, her brother, Robert “Bobby” Geist and her sister, Carol Mountfort. She is survived by her two sons, Fred Hansen (Angie) of Arvada, Co., and Danny Hansen (Charyn) of Colorado Springs, Co., her five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. All of whom she loved deeply.
