On Tuesday, February 15, 2022, Doris (Motoko) Wright, loving wife and mother of 4 children, passed away at the age of 91. Motoko Yoshikawa was born on March 25, 1930 in Kobe, Japan.
On January 18, 1950 she married William M. Wright. With their three sons and daughter, they lived an adventurous life traveling to Japan, Alaska, Georgia, Washington, France and eventually to Colorado.
Since 1961, Doris has been a familiar face in Colorado Springs. She worked at the Terrace Lounge and the Golden Bee at the Broadmoor Hotel. She became a trailblazer as a woman sushi chef and introduced the world of sushi to many. She wouldn’t consider it so, but Doris was a true artist wherever she applied her skills.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, William; son, Harry; and grandson, David. She is survived by sons: Yoshi (Gigi) Wright, Stephen (Diane) Wright; daughter, Evelyn (Michael) Rubino; and ‘adopted’ son, James Gulley; grandsons: Dustin Wright and Nick Langseth; great grandchildren: Eric and Danielle Wright, and Collette Langseth.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd. A “Celebration of Life” follows the service at the Patty Jewett Club House, 900 E. Espanola St., Colorado Springs, CO 80907.
