It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, Oma, great Oma, aunt, and friend, Doris West. She passed away peacefully early in the morning on October 23, 2024, at the age of 78 in her home in Colorado Springs.

Doris Elizabeth Hammerschlag was born on August 27, 1946, in Gelting, Germany. She became Doris Elizabeth West on June 14, 1969, when she married her sweetheart, Walter West, in Washington, D.C.

Doris was a wonderful mother to Todd, Brian, Ray, and Nikki, always there when we needed her most, offering support, wisdom, and love. She took so much pride in being Oma to Todd, Jr., Kalyn, Kayla, Taylor, Ethan, Madison, Brooklyn, Naomi, and Sienna, and great Oma to Iris and Ivy, leaving behind a legacy of love that will never be forgotten and will forever be deeply cherished.

A friend to many, Doris will be remembered for her charismatic personality, beautiful spirit of giving and kindness, and unmatched hospitality. She loved to host gatherings complete with her delicious cooking and fantastic decor.

Doris leaves behind a void that will be felt every day, but we take comfort in knowing she is with our Heavenly Father and she has been reunited with her son, Ray; her mother and father, Helga and George; and her in-laws, Beatrice and Walter, Sr.

She is celebrated for her contagious joy, steadfast love, witty sense of humor, incredible generosity, and abiding commitment to her family, her friends, and her Savior, Jesus Christ.

A celebration of life will be held on at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the New Life Church, World Prayer Center, located at 11005 Voyager Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO 80921. There will be a visitation prior to the service at 10:00 am. A reception will be held following the service at the World Prayer Center.
