Dorothy “Dotti” Connell, 96, passed away on May 8, 2015, at Pikes Peak Hospice. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for the past 34 years. Born in Haddam, Kansas February 19, 1919, to Alonzo and Marietta Cordry, Dotti was the youngest of 8 children, all of whom are deceased.
After graduating from Couch High in Couch, Missouri, Dotti moved to Waterloo, Iowa where she met and married her beloved Russ. There they raised their 5 children. After retiring, they moved to Colorado Springs where they greatly enjoyed the mountains, camping and each other.
Dotti was a member of Holy Apostles Catholic Church, Golden Agers, Catholic Daughters and Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. Growing up poor during the Depression, Dotti had a special place in her heart for the less fortunate.
She is survived by her 5 children: Connie Alexander, Tom Connell (Janeen), Pat Connell (Linda), Denice Mellberg (Doug) and Rhonda Lawrence (Kevin); 18 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Russ.
Visitations will be at Shrine of Remembrance on Wednesday, May 13 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM followed by the Rosary, and Thursday, May 14 at 9:30 AM at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 4925 N. Carefree Circle. A 10:00 AM funeral Mass will follow Thursday’s visitation.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Apostles Food Pantry in Dotti’s name.
Dotti will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
