Douglas (Doug) Sean McIntyre, was born January 2, 1967, to James M. McIntyre and Roberta Lee Rothe McIntyre of Colorado Springs, CO. He passed away December 2, 2021.
He is predeceased by both of his parents and grandparents.
Douglas is lovingly remembered by his wife Sarah Rodery, brother James McIntyre (Paula) of Pueblo, Colorado; His sister Jennifer Jenkins (Dewayne) of Ankeny, Iowa; His children: Jeremy McIntyre; Katheryn McIntyre (Aaron), Cassandra McIntyre and Benjamin Rodery, all of Colorado Springs, CO, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, great-nephews and great nieces.
Doug began his career in healthcare working with developmentally disabled adults by helping them learn to live independently. In his late 20’s Doug met and married Becky Gaerlan. They welcomed their son, Jeremy and soon after twin girls, Katie and Cassie. It was during this time that Doug chose to pursue his career as a paramedic.
Doug started as an EMT with AMR then excelled as a Paramedic and Disaster Relief Coordinator during Hurricane Katrina. Doug enjoyed learning and growing in his career and mentoring others. Doug ultimately served the Donald J. Wescott Fire Department as a Paramedic until he left for medical complications. During his career he was awarded the Star of Life, the Medal of Valor, and countless other awards and accolades. He formed lasting bonds with those he worked with over the course of 20 plus years and created a family with his fellow EMS/Fire/First responders. He was proud to serve his community where he saved and touched countless lives during his career.
Doug’s love for his career was only surpassed by his joy and pride in his children. He encouraged them in everything they did. He instilled in each of them his love of sports and was always very active in their participation in organized sports such as basketball and baseball, but also in others outside of school such as golf and fishing.
Doug was a cowboy at heart and a jack of all trades with numerous hobbies including golf, woodworking, fan of rodeos and was a collector of multiple items that he would always find the value in. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking, fishing, camping, country music, dancing, and travel.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday December 16, 2021, at 12:30 pm at Rocky Mountain Calvary Church, 4285 N. Academy Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80918. There will be a reception immediately following the service in the café upstairs. Followed by a processional from the church to Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway, Colorado Springs, CO 80903 and a graveside service will be held at 3:00pm.
