Duane Keith Higgs
Duane Keith Higgs, beloved husband, stepfather, grandfather, son, brother and friend, born on August 26, 1955, at Fort Carson, Colorado, completed his baptismal journey on November 22, 2013. Keith was preceded in death by his father, Duane Higgs. He is survived by his wife Ginny Henderson of 19 years; her children: Paul Henderson, Pamela Hergenreder; and grandson, Caleb, whom Keith adored. He is also survived by his mother, Joyce Higgs-Spruth, and her husband, Erwin; his brother, Mark, of Colorado Springs; sister, Julie Higgs, and her husband, Keith Staley of Iowa.
Keith enlisted in the US Navy upon graduation from Widefield High School in 1973 and served four years as an aviation mechanic, mostly in Hawaii. At the time of death, he was self employed as a landscaping artist. He enjoyed working outdoors and designing landscapes.
Keith’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandson, cooking and smoking meat for family, friends and special events. He had been very active in Via de Cristo, a Lutheran spiritual weekend event intended to help people develop and deepen their relationship with God. He continued in Bible Study and friendship with many of the people of the Via de Cristo Fourth Day, who continued their support for him and his family during his illness. Rest in peace, Keith, safe in the arms of our Lord Jesus!
A Memorial Service for Keith will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church (Murray and Constitution) Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013, at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be made to TESSA, 435 Gold Pass Heights, Colorado Springs 80906.
