Eleanor Vandell, age 92, a resident of Centennial, Colorado, and formerly of Colorado Springs, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the Holly Creek Retirement Community in Centennial. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and caregiver.

Eleanor Ruby Lenhart was born on November 13, 1920 in Brush, Colorado, to the late Conrad and Catherine (Roth) Lenhart. She was a 1938 graduate of McCook High School in McCook Nebraska, and attended McCook Junior College. She married Benedict S. Vandell on November 28, 1942 in Biloxi, Mississippi.

She was a dedicated wife and mother and tireless worker in the service of her family. After her boys were grown, she served as a dedicated civil servant with the United States Air Force and was a caregiver to her father-in-law and sister, and will be best remembered for her selfless commitment to assist those who could not care for themselves. She was also an avid bridge player, belonging to several clubs in the Colorado Springs area and enjoying the company of all those with whom she came into contact.

She is survived by her sons: Kerry (wife, Deborah) Vandell of Laguna Beach, California; and Craig (wife, Cheryl) Vandell of Centennial, Colorado. She has four wonderful grandchildren: Colin Vandell, Ashley Kerbel, Kathryn Vandell, and Christopher Vandell. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ben in 1998, and six brothers and sisters.

Memorial Services will be held at 4:30 pm on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance North Chapel, 5440 N. Union Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Private inurnment will follow at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum. Memorials in her name may be made to the Holly Creek Retirement Community, the American Heart Association, or the Arthritis Foundation.
