Ellen P. Herrmann
Ellen P. Herrmann passed away Friday, August 26, 2016 in Colorado Springs. She was born on May 24, 1921, Norwood, Minnesota. Her parents were William and Hulda Henschen. Ellen was baptized in the Christian faith on June 5, 1921 at Zion Lutheran Church, Cologne. Her early education was taught in German. She and the love of her life, Orlind, grew up on neighboring farms near Cologne, Minnesota. They were married on June 30, 1941.
She worked for School District 11 in the cafeteria at Palmer High School. Ellen was known for the beautiful wedding and birthday cakes she made for family members and friends. She was a faithful servant and member of Rock of Ages Lutheran Church. She was actively involved in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League since 1942. Ellen taught Sunday school, pre-confirmation classes, and organized funeral luncheons. Until recently she participated in making charity quilts. Gardening was one of her passions.
Ellen Herrmann is survived by her sons, Gordon (Sue) Herrmann and Bruce (Penny) Herrmann. Survivors also include her brothers, Hilton and Lester (Elsie) Henschen, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Safford and Florence Herrmann. Five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren also survive. She was also loved by numerous nieces, nephews and friends throughout the country.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ellen Herrmann’s memory to the playground equipment fund for the Rock of Ages Lutheran Church Pre-school and Childcare Center.
