Emma L. Allen, age 91, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1946, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2012 in Canon City, Colorado. She was a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and sister.
Emma Louise Harmon was born on May 10, 1920 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the late Abner and Hattie (Stokes) Harmon. She was married on November 1, 1944 in Meridian, Mississippi to Jefferson Charles Allen. Jeff passed away in 1998.
She enjoyed writing and reading, but will be best remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed meeting new people and always said that she had never met a stranger.
Emma is survived by her four children: Marsha (husband, Charles) Horn of Canon City; Jeff (wife, Vernus) Allen, Jr. of Wheat Ridge, Colorado; George (wife, Brenda) Allen of Colorado Springs and Kenneth (wife, Jamie) Allen, also of Colorado Springs. She will be dearly missed by her longtime companion: Art Sparks of Palmer Lake, Colorado.
She has two sisters: Catherine Thompson of Colorado Springs and Dorothy McWilliams of Meridian, Mississippi. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Julie Banda; Levi Allen; Marlee Horn; Brock Allen; Daniel Allen; Emily Allen; and Sarah Allen. She has four great grandchildren.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son: Terry; a granddaughter: Jeannelle; and ten brothers and sisters.
Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday May 3, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. A luncheon reception will follow. Cryptside Committal Services are planned for 2:00 pm on Friday at Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
