Epifania “Penny” Padeway went to her Heavenly home Tuesday night, August 22, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in the Philippines, and a Widefield resident since 1964, Penny was an avid Broncos and Rockies fan. She took every opportunity to fish throughout the state of Colorado and enjoyed crocheting heirloom quality bedspreads, scarves and table cloths. Most weekend nights you could find her playing a friendly game of poker with family and friends or in one of the several bingo parlors in town. She was a regular parishioner of Holy Family and St. Dominic’s Catholic church, and freely shared her home-cooked Filipino meals with her children’s and grandchildren’s many friends. In fact, the towns of Security and Widefield collectively knew her as “Mom Padeway”.
Penny is survived by her only sibling, Gloria Shimkus, of Brownsville, Texas; her 8 children: Oliver, Olivia, Baltazar, Diana, Edward, Oscar, Robert, and Glenn; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and her youngest child, Fred.
Visitation is set for Monday, August 28, 2017 at 1:00 pm followed by a Catholic funeral mass at 2:00 pm at the Shrine of Remembrance located at 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO, 80910. A short interment service will follow at the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, on the premises.
A Celebration of Life pot luck will be held at 4:30 pm at the Wolf’s Den Lounge at 6318 S. US Highway 85-87, Fountain, CO 80817.
