Ernest Berry Jones Jr.
1950-2017
Ernest Berry Jones Jr., 66, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on June 8, 2017. Ernie was a resident of Colorado Springs for 30 years. He held many jobs but his favorite was being a Flight Engineer in the United States Air Force.
Ernest Berry Jones Jr. was born on October 25, 1950 to Ernest Berry Jones Sr. and Mary Jane McDonough in Charleston, South Carolina. On August 19, 1972, he married Janey Diane Epling in Oakland, California.
Ernie loved to travel, watch movies, tell jokes, portray Santa Claus, and spend time with his family, especially his grandkids. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and an active participant in the Shriners organization for many years. Ernie served in the United States Military for 22 years, first in the Navy and then in the Air Force. He was proud to serve his country and was a huge supporter of the military.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janey Diane (Epling) Jones; his siblings: Charles Jones, Michael Jones (Beatrice), and Teresa Jones; his children: Deanna Lynn Whited (Christopher), Douglas Berry Jones, and Debra Kay Forman (William “Charlie” Vann); his grandchildren: Damian Scott Whited, Mason Paul Whited, Emma Annie Whited, and Brett Thomas Whited; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ernest Berry Jones Sr. and Mary Jane (McDonough) Jones.
A visitation will be held from 9am-10am on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 2750 Melissa Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80907. The funeral service will begin at 10 am followed by a graveside service at Memorial Gardens located at 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80909. A light luncheon will follow back at the church. In honor of the love, light, and laughter that Ernie brought to the world, the family is requesting that people dress in bright colored clothing.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ernie’s name to the Shriners Hospital of Salt Lake City, 1275 E. Fairfax Road, Salt Lake City, UT 84103-4399.
