Ernest “Ernie” P. Barcelon
Ernie passed away on June 8th, 2015. He was a general contractor and owner of ABC Construction/Barcelon Concrete and a proud Colorado Native.
Ernie was born on October 18th, 1937 to Ezekiel and Mary Alice (Martinez) Barcelon in Las Animas, CO. On August 17th, 1957, Ernie married his high school sweetheart, Leilla Barnes, of Colorado Springs, CO.
Ernie was a kind man and a friend to all as well as a talented artist who had an eye for color and design. In earlier years, he had a one man art show at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and provided art work for Easter Seals. He loved motorcycles, vintage cars and bowling and he and his family loved their horses until he was bucked, bitten and rolled over and the colt thought Ernie was his mother. He liked to travel and enjoyed being outdoors in the Colorado Mountains. He loved football (Denver Broncos) and basketball (Lakers and Nuggets). He graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1955 and later served in the US Army.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Leilla, of 57 years; children Phil (April) Barcelon, Cory (Ralph) Schaefer, Lory Barcelon, and Kelli (Cary) Martin; grandchildren Shaun, Meagan, Aubrey, Payton, Kyle and Charlei Ann; and great grandson Michah; as well as siblings Cheryl Ehrke, Ricky Barcelon, Jeannie Simensky and Bobby Barcelon; plus brother- and sister-in-law Lance and Charlie Selkirk; very dear friends Jim and MaryGean Ivy and many other family and friends.
Ernie was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother (Jimmy Barcelon).
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2015 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd.
