Ernestine N. Vialpando, age 77, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1958 and formerly of San Luis, Colorado, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at her home in Colorado Springs. She was a housekeeping supervisor for several nursing facilities, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Ernestine Natividad Vigil was born on December 24, 1935 in San Luis, Colorado to the late Demostenes and Aranita (Jaramillo) Vigil. She attended schools in San Luis and married Benino Vialpando on April 1954. She enjoyed crocheting, puzzles, painting and various crafts. She especially enjoyed reading novels and spending time with her beloved family.
She is survived by her loving children: Virgil (Joy) Vialpando of Peyton, Colorado; Dennis (Patsy) Vialpando; Gail (Scott) Pennington; and Jose Vialpando, all of Colorado Springs. She had eight wonderful grandchildren and eleven great- grandchildren.
Ernestine is also survived by her sisters: Olivia Maestas of Pueblo, Colorado; Dolores (Willie) Garcia of Pueblo; Catherine (Robert) Espinosa of Blanca, Colorado and Shirley Vigil of Aurora, Colorado. She has one brother: Manuel (Paula) Vigil, also of Pueblo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benino in 2001; her son: Ben Vialpando in 2003; her brothers: Wilbert and Lorenzo Vigil and her sisters: Juanita Vigil and Emma Espinosa.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A Rosary Service will be said at 7:00 pm in the Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10:00 am on Friday, December 6, 2013 at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 927 N. Logan Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Family and friends will then return to the church for a luncheon reception.
