December 28, 1921 – October 8, 2021

Eugene Arthur “Gene” Griepentrog passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021.  He was a resident of Colorado Springs for over 50 years.

Gene was born on December 28, 1921 to Walter E. Griepentrog and Edna (Loth) Griepentrog in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  He was a graduate of the City of Milwaukee Board of Education and earned his Associate in Science, “With Distinction” Degree from the National College of Business in Rapid City, South Dakota.  He married the love of his life, Giselle K. Schmidt on March 16, 1962 in Wiesbaden, Germany.  He served his country in the United States Air Force for 30 plus years and retired as Chief Master Sergeant.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his siblings. 

Gene was a very special man, adored by many with his generous heart and intriguing story telling capabilities. He captured so many people’s hearts with his sense of humor and kindness. All though he will be missed greatly here on earth, we rest in peace knowing he is reunited with his true love in heaven. May God rest your soul.

Inurnment will be private and will take place at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Garden of Tranquility. A celebration of life will be held at his home at a later date.

  1. Meeting you in January 2012 was a very memorable day for us. You were the very first neighbor to reach out to us, 5 visits that first day.
    You quickly became the grandpa we never had. You were loved by each and everyone in our family. The times we spent together will be cherished for ever. From your experience with Mindy’s pregnancy and birth of Nash !
    We cherished our dinners and lunches and icecream and even wine that we shared together.
    Coloring Easter eggs for the first time was truly a great memory.
    We feel so very Blessed by your love for us and ours for you. We love you Grandpa Gene!

    It has been delighted to have been apart of your life. From the day I meet you at the barbershop and becoming your barber to our week day lunches and time together. Oh how I am going to miss you so much. I have learned so much from and enjoy every moment we have shared. You have help me and my children in a variety of ways along with the greatest support in this journey of life. You will sincerely be missed but I know you and your wife are dancing with the angles.
    Until we meet again, know you are a huge role model for the boys and I.
    I have been blessed to be apart of your journey. We love you.
