Eva Louise Smiley

Eva Louise Sutton Werschky Smiley, 96, the last survivor among her peers in her family, died peacefully, apparently of natural causes at National Healthcare Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Saturday morning, May 16, 2015.

Eva was born in Flint, Michigan, and was married to Reuben E. Werschky in 1938, they resided in Owosso, Michigan, with two children, Judith Kay Werschky Townsend who died prematurely in 1984, and Carol Werschky Grohn who presently resides in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with her husband, Lawrence. The core Werschky family had moved to Colorado Springs in 1956.

Reuben passed in August 1969, and in 1973 Eva married Orlie Smiley, who also predeceased Eva in 1999. Eva lived with Larry and Carol Grohn who all together then retired to Chattanooga in 2007.

Eva is survived by her daughter, Carol Grohn; step-son, Orlie Smiley, Jr.; grandsons: Vaughn Townsend, and Troy Townsend of Denver, Colorado; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Private interment will take place following the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, or Mayo Clinic Center for Multiple Sclerosis and CNS Demyelinating Disease Research Department.
