May 6, 1918 – February 10, 2021

Evelyn French, age 102, passed away at her home in Black Forest, Colorado on February 10, 2021.  She was born May 6, 1918 in Vergas, Minnesota to Alex and Florence (Wolter) Lachowitzer.

Evelyn graduated from the United States Army Nursing Corps and worked for many years as a Registered Nurse (R.N.).  She was a founding member of Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Black Forest and was passionately active with various pro-life causes.  She wrote and directed a number of religious plays, enjoyed sketching, and was talented with handcrafts such as sewing and quilting. She married a Navy veteran, Robert Emmanuel French, on November 27, 1947 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denver, Colorado.

She is survived by 3 sons: Michael Robert, James Emmanuel, and Christopher Paul French; 4 daughters: Mary Beth French, Joan Cecilia Sharpe, Ann French, and Claire Baggett; and 1 sister, Ruby Buchanan.  She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband; 1 daughter, Carolyn Evelyn French Osborne; and 7 brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 15, 2021 at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Black Forest.  A closed-casket visitation will be held from 10:30 – noon and a Rosary at 12:30. Interment will be private and take place at Eastonville Cemetery in Elbert, Colorado on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.
